Shaun Riordan’s career has focused on the analysis and management of geopolitical risk. Currently he is focusing on the interactions between diplomacy, cyberspace and new technologies.
Shaun is Director of the Chair for Diplomacy and Cyberspace at the European Institute of International Studies and A Senior Research Fellow at the Charhar Institute (Beijing). He has been a Senior Visiting Fellow of the Netherlands Institute for International Relations, “Clingendael,” and a Visiting Fellow of the LSE.
As former British diplomat, he served in New York, Taiwan, Beijing and Madrid, as well as the Hong Kong, Counterterrorism and Yugoslavia Department of the Foreign Office.
He has taught in the Diplomatic Academies of Bulgaria, Spain, the Dominican Republic and Armenia, as well as lecturing in the German Foreign Ministry on multinational diplomacy.
He is the author of “The New Diplomacy” (Polity 2003), “Cyberdiplomacy: Managing Security and Governance Online” (Polity 2019), and “The Geopolitics of Cyberspace: A Diplomatic Perspective” (Brill 2018)
